New FE Policy Podcast: Issue One - VQRP in a nutshell

LSDA NI has developed a new podcast to accompany the Policy and Curriculum E-Newsletter. The e-newsletter and the podcast cover a wide range of policy issues from across the UK.

For the ‘non-techies’ amongst us, a podcast is an audio and/or video file that can be played back on a personal media player, such as Apple’s iPod or Microsoft’s Zune and many mobile phones.

In this instance an audio question and answer session was recorded by LSDA NI Policy Officer, Roy Logan and Development Officer, Mark Byrne.

Commenting on the initiative Mark Byrne explained: “Many people now own a personal media player. Apple, alone, has sold more than one hundred million iPods since they launched the product in 2001. At LSDA NI we are keen to explore the new opportunities that technology presents, so this initial trial of podcasting seemed a natural thing to do.”

LSDA NI Policy Officer, Roy Logan, added: “Not everyone has time in their busy schedules to sit down and read the printed word. It is easier to utilise those moments of ‘down-time’ such as walking to work or driving the car to listen to audio recordings.”

The inaugural edition of the podcast is entitled: VQRP in a nutshell.
VQRP is an issue of current concern for the learning and skills sector across the UK, as some elements kick in this September.

Questions answered:
What is the UK VQRP and what changes will it entail?
What about the new qualification framework?
What’s a ULN and how will future achievements, such as full and part qualifications be recorded?
What will happen to existing qualifications?

To access this podcast go to thetlc.org.uk and perform a search for ‘podcast’ or search for LSN in the iTunes store. Alternatively this resource is associated with the open group Policy Review for Further Education
